I decided to mention the thought of having surgery to one of my closest friends from work. She was immediately excited for me. I mentioned it to my husband, who pretty much is supportive of anything I choose to do. I told my parents. I discussed it with my friend who had had the procedure a year ago. I spoke with my boss, who knows me really well. She said, “Jen we all know we have been trying to lose weight for the past several years, and nothing is working. Things are going to continue to be stressful with COVID and it’s surely not going to get any easier, I say ‘Go For It’”. Unbelievable! I was getting so much support from everyone. Meanwhile, all I hear from patients is that when they told their families they were told, “Oh, you’re taking the easy way out” or “You can do it on your own”. The difference…everyone I mentioned above, excluding my husband, is in the medical profession and knows how advanced bariatric surgery has become and how life-changing and life-saving it can be.
