As if seeing patients daily who were resolving their weight loss struggle wasn’t hard enough, my supervisor announces, “we are doing a Bariatric In-Service with Dr. Pysher” next week. I was actually excited to go, more so, so I could help others and understand the different procedural options, not for myself, by any means. That afternoon I struggled to end a call so I could attend the meeting that was happening outside my office. Oddly enough, I remember the conversation the patient was having with me. He was talking about a diet plan that he was trying and all I could do was try to listen patiently, while trying even harder to hear what was going on right outside my office. The call ended and I was able to attend the last 15 minutes of the in-service. I learned most importantly how important it is to maintain proper nutrition after the procedure and to choose a surgeon that will follow up with you and your lab values annually.
