The Initial Consult
Dr. Pysher spent thirty minutes at the initial consult explaining
the differences in procedures and benefits and risks. The surgeon you select
should explain the details of both gastric sleeve and gastric bypass and should
recommend or assist you in choosing which one is best for you. She handed me a folder when I left that every single thing in it that I needed to be able to embark on this journey. My instructions were to see a nutritionist three months in a row, get an ultrasound to rule out gallstones, meet with a psychologist for a consult (if you are struggling with alcohol or drug addiction-it is not the right time for weight loss surgery), get lab work completed, get a sleep study and meet with my primary care physician for medical clearance. It sounded overwhelming at first, but I knew I had three months to get it done. I pulled out a calendar and started making appointments.
